Maintenance
« on: March 04, 2007, 05:34:54 am »
Well, K-town and I pretty much knocked out all of our annual maintenance today.  I have one question for you X-22 experts.  I noticed the manual says to change the "transmission oil filter".  I see that it is available on the TMS parts (MTR0010937), but is kind of spendy.  Is this the filter you use, or is there another I should be considering?  Just wanted to get all of the facts before I spend the cash.  Thanks.  Oh yeah...the manual does not give a capacity/quantity of ATF to add.  I put in 2 quarts of Mobil 1 dextron and it appears to be enough...any advice?  Thanks.

It's really just a little cup made out of fine mesh, just clean it.

Just use a can of brake clean. spray it from the inside out and then blow it out with compressed air.

I changed all my fluids before putting my s22 in the shop for the season and I did not clean the tranny screen.  Is there a screen on the v-drive, and where is it?  If there is one, how often should I have been cleaning it?

I couldn't find one on my V-drive, maybe Cyclone can confirm it, but I don't think you will have one on a v-drive.

Thanks.  It is probably good that I don't have one since it wouldn't have been changed in 7 seasons.

oh yeah...my trailer brakes were serviced in June 06.  Other than greasing my hubs and greasing the stand you crank down at the front of the trailer, is there anything else I should be concerned with?  Also, i've seen the maintenance guide on how to change the impellar, but for those of you who have ACTUALLY changed it yourself, are there any gotchas or things you wished you knew before you started pulling off belts and water pumps?  Thanks for any guidance.   K-town, we need to set up another time to finish the servicing.

one last thing (for now I guess) has anyone every used fuel injector cleaner in their boats?  I haven't yet but was curious to know if it is a good/bad idea. Thanks again.

Have a printout of the maintenance guide and note what you have to take off and what you don't.  I took off a bracket I didn't need to the first time I did it, all that cost me was time though.  Another thing I would do (and did) was take some digital pictures before I started taking stuff apart, especially of the belt routing.  Cyclone has some good ones in the manual but I felt more confident I had my own pics as well.

Very good point!  I will definitely take pics before I start pulling it apart.  Thanks.

You should bleed your trailer brakes, very important.

Is bleeding the trailer brakes something you want to do annually?  I probably should do it regardless.  Thanks.

I bleed my brakes every fall. I also repack and reseal the bearings every fall at the same time. Brake fluid by nature absorbs water just like the ethanol in your gasoline.
It is just cheap insurance if you do the work yourself. I trailer about a 1000 miles a summer and my trailer has to be right.
