Steering adjustment
« on: May 17, 2010, 15:51:30 pm »
Well just finished installing a new steering cable, Rotary steering assembly, and a new 525 acme prop and took it out on the water.  The new prop is awesome WOW. My steering is better but  not right still!!!! I have the steering wheel straight on the trailer and the rudder is straight i put it in the water and drive and the wheel needs to be turned to keep it straight what the hell else can i do is there anything i can adjust  or should i replace the rudder port and the rudder they look fine but who nos . When i turn the steering wheel right to left there is only about a 2 to 3 inch differnce in wheel when on trailer .

Well if it wasnt for the gas tank it would not be to bad. I Cut the old steering cable with bolt cutters and used it for a pull cable. the route going to the steering assembly is tight . Hopefully i dont have to do it again

I think the rudder (and thus the steering wheel) always has to be turned slightly to compensate for the rotation of the propellar, especially at lower speeds. As with reverse, the boat likes to go a certain direction based on the the prop rotation. Of course, I'm going off of memory and assuming I understand what you're describing.

When i Take off on the water i have to turn the wheel at least a 1/4 of a turn counter clockwise a believe to get it to go straight and thats the same all the time to keep it straight it just seem differnt than i remember
