Okay I have gotten a couple emails about my epic. And rather then keep replying to each one with the exact story am going to post the details on here - like I said I was going to a few months ago.   Last summer while taking the epic out on a local lake to basically show it off to a female companion an inline fuse slipped out of then ignition and kill the engine.  After about 10 minutes of wondering why everything on the boat was dead (radio, gauges, engine) we had managed to trace the problem back to the ingintion fuse.  When we poped it back in everything came to life but attempting to start the engine (which never had a problem piror) proved to be difficult.   I got towed back in that day and after making a couple post to this forum and problem solving - I have come to the conclusion that the Lexus Engine that powers the boats needs to be rebuilt.  The engine only has 270 hrs on it (i believe) and starts but i refuse to run it because the number 8 cyclinder has no compression in it.  Its been suggested to me that the engine could have been "shock cooled" and its it probablly a broken pin in the cyclinder.   I know the engine is to complex for a simple guy like myself to rebuild so I am going to continue to offer it for sale.   $17,000 OBO -  if the boat doesn't sale in early spring I am going to foot the bill and get it running myself.  Always open for suggestions and I can help tow the boat to a reasonible distance for little or no cost, ect.  I can take a pix of anything you want or need to see. Just email me and we'll go from there-  rds2p@mtsu.edu

You sure did a nice job cleaning it up. I remember bidding on that boat on eBay. I bid around 16K and was the high bidder but my bid was below the reserve price. Have you sold it yet?

I am please to tell all you epic lovers my Epic X22 is back in the lake ready category!!!  A very good friend of mine (airplane machanic by day, epic mechanic by night) and myself have completed the task.  And, I'll have her on Centerhill Lake north of Nashville on Labor day weekend.

If you can believe this- the number 8 cyclinder wasn't getting compression because of a cracked valve stem keep which prevented the valve from closing all the way.  Cost 1 dollar 64 cents from Lexus.   I replaced all 64 took the heads to a head shop and also replaced all the intake and exhaust valve stem seals.  We had the engine torn down pretty far so we replaced all the head gaskets, intake and exhaust gaskets, and every other seal in between.  Cleaned up the Engine - and put it all back together with the engine manual specs.  We changed all the belts as well- the timing belt was a big thing to take on alone, not to mention all the other work.  It was a HUGE project (not as big as the ireland guys but huge never the less.) We finished up putting the engine all back together this afternoon and droped the battery in and she started and ran better than ever.  Temp kept steady at 160 range with the fake-a-lake hooked up.  What a beautiful sounding boat!!!

The sound system I installed last summer puts out some aweomse sound as well.  Its nice to be part of the epic community again.   I ordered over 500 in parts from Capt Rick alone off this site- which included a new X22 graphics and a couple Toyota Marine Sport decals.  I popped one of those on my 4runner.  I live/work right on the lake and I have had two random guys stop and ask about the famous toyota epics.   Amazing our boats are still creating a buzz amoung riders and weekend lake yuppies.

Wish I would of made the Round up last weekend - but if you guys have another in the near future I'll try and stop by.  Still thinking about selling it for a hell of a deal if anyone is interested.   She's paid off but would make a hell of a down payment on a house for a young guy like myself.   Still open to offers...  rds2p@mtsu.edu

WOW that's great news! Can't believe you say you want to sell it in the same post! Why don't you enjoy it for the rest of the season and sell it in the spring? It will go QUICK, you should be able to get good money for that boat.

Little update- We ran it with the fake-a-lake for another hour today.  Then checked and rechecked the all the fuilds and even changed the oil filter just to be safe.  Took her to the lake and started it and got her back on the water where se belongs.   Spent another 2.5 hours breaking her back in but MAN WILL SHE GET UP AND GO!!!  I am going to put the GPS in there next time and give you guys a true speed reading.  Seriously, she was running perfect.   We've been through an entire tank of gas now and everything is working great.   Temp never got above 170 even when ideling for a long period of time waiting on the boat ramp to open up.  When we finally got out of the water and started to clean her up, another random guy drove up and was popped the question- "What exactly is that?  I thought i knew every type of boat there was but I have never seen a Toyota...  Looked like it was running great, huh?"   So yeah - its hard for me to say I want to get rid of her.  Anyways, I am going to try and post some current pictures and maybe even try and put a video up on youtube.  I'll keep you all posted!

That's awesome! I know you feel ski high. Congratulations. Now you also have the confidence and experience to fix anything on that engine!

Good news, but keep in mind that these are not speed biats. Don't blow the thing up by racing it down the lake. Give it time at random speeds under different loads.

Oh YES- I wasn't trying to Hot Dog it at all yesterday.   After sporting around the lake for a couple hours we opened her up and streched her legs.   Nothing to serious or hard on the engine.
