Gage calibration
« on: May 12, 2009, 14:44:20 pm »
My SX is running great. I changed the oil, plugs, belt, impeller and it is running perfect.  I also ran an additional wire to the computer from the new deep cycle battery and added a second deep cycle battery with a PERKO switch.  I still get the low voltage bullshit at higher RPM's but have decided I really don't care about that anymore since it runs so good.  It is better now than before for sure...

A couple years ago, I had the computer and all my gauges replaced by Phil Dill boats in Dallas.  All the dial ones work fine but on my computer, I can't get the depth finder or the air / water temp gauges to work.  the air temp is like 148 and the water is 108 last time I was out and the depth finder is all over the place, but not accurate at all.  I don't even know where to start fixing this problem so I have just never worried about it.  Now that our Lake is down 35 feet, I would like to have a depth finder atleast...  Any ideas?  Is there a way to calibrate them or should I just go buy a new one and forget about that stupid computer readout?

Any advice is appreciated!

Check out Wet-N-Frugal's excellent post on depth finder transducer placement.  It's long, but worth it!

Hope this helps...

Johnny B,

I don't know about the depth finder problem, as mine has always worked. But if your outside and water temp is not even close to accurate, then the boat never came with the sending unit to make it work. It was an expensive option when new and probably never purchased and installed. I didn't pay for it on mine and my display is just like yours.
Hopefully you can find a fix for your depth finder, as I find that option very usefull.

Hey Johnny B- check out the post "HELP!!! depth finder info". i think you most likely have the same problem i did. oh yeah and its still working like a charm. make sure you rewire it so you don't burnout the new transducer.

I used that post to work on my depth finder. I found that the puck wasn't glued very well, so I peeled it up and cleaned the hull and puck thoroughly. I was able to hear a slight clicking sound from the transducer, so I assume it is working. I reglued it to the hull with clear silicone and will test it the next time out.

Wakejunky,

thanks for the info, I just ordered a new one from the same site.  Lake Travis is about 35 feet low right now so a depth finder is pretty handy.  I know the lake very well but it get's scary at night sometimes with all the random Islands and low spots.  I can't wait to get it working, thanks again!
