So is the surf wake that much better now?  I wouldn't do it to my boat because my boat is normally non-ballast 99% of the time.

it is definitely better.  try weighing your boat down and then take the platform off completely.   don't worry, it floats..  see what you think. On my boat, it made all the difference.  It still isn't huge, but it's clean and I can surf on it..
