I have at least 2 inches between the strut and prop.  Does anyone else have that great a length?  No size doesn't matter jokes please.

He's asking us to measure the length of exposed driveshaft between prop and strut. I think the name for that region is 'gooch'.

The amount of prop shaft that is exposed between the strut and the propeller.  It should be less then 1 inch.  Mine is 2-3 inches.

There is a procedure in the epic owners manual for seating the prop on the shaft. Since it is a tapered shaft, the prop can seat farther back if you make it fit the shaft better. You are supposed to check it with Prussian Blue, if there is less than 60% contact area, you should seat the prop. I don't have any Prussian blue in my back pocket, or a way to measure 60% contact, so I just went through the procedure anyway. It got rid of strange vibrations under load.

Pull off prop.
Put valve lapping compound on shaft (abrasive fluid you can get from an auto parts store)
Slide the prop onto the shaft, turn it 10 times clockwise, then 10 times CCW until you've done it 100 times.
You are supposed to check it again after that with the blue stuff.

I have remounted the prop a few times.  Even when sliding it as far foreward with lube, it is still too far from the strut.  Can a few Toyota owners check there boats?

Are you experiencing excessive vibration in turns?  That's where I would expect the issues with the space between the strut and the prop. Even with rudder steering turning induces maxium radial force on the prop.  If your not  I wouldn't worry about it, but for the record I checked mine and it's 1-1/4".

Outside of that, you had to expect at least a little, "sh*t and giggles" from how you posed your question. LOL    ;)

No vibration.  My lake has lots of weeds and they get trapped in that space.  Much more then my friends Malibu which has no space between the prop and strut.  The article on prop shaft alignment said the space shouldn't be more then 1/2 of the shaft diameter or it puts too much stress on the strut.

If you think it's a problem I would bitch at Toyota, if it is a problem it is a manufacturing problem. Assuming you are running stock prop, etc. If you have aftermarket pieces, don't expect a response.
