Speedometer sticking at 40 mph---Any thoughts??
« on: September 21, 2009, 13:01:58 pm »
2001 Epic X22 I am finding the last month that when starting up the boat---the speedometer needle will normally jump up and then wants to go back to zero but will stick at 40 mph---I am standing still---has anyone had this occur??
Speedometer does not have any moisture in it or is fogging at all. I can accelerate up to over 40 mph to find that needle will them move to the speed over 40mph and then I will slow down to find then the needle will go down to zero when I come to a stop. I would like to fix this if there is water caught somewhere before I put it away for winter.
Thanks

remove the hose off the speedo p/u and suck on the hose and see if you have a lot of water in the tubing. Get it all out if you can. Then make sure your speedo pivot is not pluged. Blow back through it at the nipple where the hose attaches. If it is clear and all the water is out of the tubing and the problem persist then you will need a new speedo head. You can always pull the head and ship to Capt Rick for testing.

Your stock speedo system will drive you mad. Your hair will turn grey and fall out. Your blood will boil and your stomach will churn until you put Perfect Pass on your boat. I'm just sayin........You need an accurate speedometer and the stock one sucks. Plus, it's like getting a new boat when you pull someone for the first time with a good speed control. Our boats need it due to the low torque to weight ratio.  It takes a lot of throttle movement to keep a steady speed with any weight in the boat.
