How much $ for low hour SX22 ?
« on: February 22, 2010, 21:31:48 pm »
Is 21K too much money for a sub 200 hour SX22 ?  I currently have an Epic 21 and want to replace it with an SX22, I am close to closing a deal on the boat and was curious to hear the opinions of some of the members on the forum.  A few friends are telling me it is too much $, but then they have never owned a toyota>  I will be pretty hard to convince that  I need to pass on this boat but I would appreciate your opinions.

Second question is the build quality as good on the later toyotas as on the 1999 Epic 21, my 21 has been a great boat with super reliability.

Third question, how different is the sound of the SX22 compared to the 21, I noticed  the SX does not have the dual outlets like the 21 and I really like the sound of the 21 ?

thanks

Capt Rick

1. What year is the sx?
2. The Epic 21 had 2 years of testing and develpment, it had a simpler dash computer.
3. The S22 has 4 inch exhaust and E21 twin 3 inch exhaust.
4. The boating is different on the E21 vs S22,
S22-  SMOTHER RIDE IN ROUGH WATER. MORE ROOM.

the sx I am looking at is a 2001,  I can really use the extra room compared to my Epic 21  as well my assumption is that it should be better for surfing than the 21.   Is the SX platform not as reliable as the 21 ?

thanks for the feedback and thanks also for the quick shipping and great service when I needed a transmission cooler I got from you last year

I am also in Alberta... Edmonton area with an X22. I had a green Epic 21 to begin with and now have an X22. I have a large family and we always fill the extra room in the boat, but there are things I miss about the E21. It had the storage up front... and nothing sounds like the E21. I expected my 2000 X22 to sound the same but it does not... I can't see what the difference would be, but I loved the sound on my E21.

I am interested to know if you would consider selling the Star Gazer separate from your boat and if it would work on my X22. Please let me know if you are interested in selling it separately.

Thanks

I owned a 2000 E22 and now own a 2001 SX22. I think the build quality is much better on the newer boat. That said, I have been in a bunch of E21's that were unbelievably tight construction.

I would definitely upgrade to the SX if you can get it. If you ski at all, you won't like it but if you want a 22' V drive with auto ballast with tanks, you can't get anything in the low 20's. I'd use the extra 5k you saved by tricking it out and buying some spares while there available.

The E21 I have for sale I believe is your old boat and yes it is a great sounding boat.  I will first see how the accuski works on the SX before I sell my Stargazer PP.  The PP really works fantastic on the E21.

Looking forward to getting the SX home.

I wish you would post pictures of that boat for people on this site to see. It had the most unique colors and our whole family loved them. Absolutely a beautiful boat.

Where do you boat now? While Jackfish is a great lake, we are spending more time at Wabamum due to how busy Jackfish has become. Have you met any other local Epic owners? I hope your accuski works great...

Do you have to go far for the SX? There is an Epic on Jackfish... not many hours on it but it has seen a lot of sun... sits under a canopy from spring to fall on the lake. Used to be owned by the owner of the Mastercraft dealership... it was his boat until he purchased the Mastercraft franchise. I still find it amazing that here in Alberta I believe we have the highest volume boat dealerships for Mastercraft and Malibu in North America... and one of the shortest seasons.

Hope to catch up to you on the lake this summer.

Good idea I will post some pictures of the the E21, I agree the colour combination is really sharp and this boat has worked flawlessly for me the past seasons.  I did a few upgrades to it, stereo, hot water shower and perfect pass but we decided we wanted an SX and have been looking for the right one for a little while.

We do all of our boating in the Shuswap in British Coumbia (3-4 weeks in July Aug).  I have met one other Epic owner that skis on the Shuswap as well and  he would not trade his boat for any other.  There is one other Epic X-22 (red/white) I have seen on Mara near Sicamous as well.  The SX is coming from Wisonsin from an original owner who purchased from the dealer.

Not trying to hijack the thread but I love the sound of my E21 as well. I look forward to starting it up the first time in spring and every time thereafter until the last run in the late Fall. I thought it was just me so it is nice to hear someone else say it...
Don't be so humble, you're not that great.

That is true, the best sounding Epic I've ever heard was Wrecks Epic 21:) My Epic 22 sounded pretty throaty, but not like that boat. My SX sounds like a sewing machine, there's more noise from the V drive than the engine.

There's nothing like that first cold start at the boat launch to ring in summer...

My E22 sounds good but there are times its too muffled for my tastes, wish there was a easy and cheap way to fix that.  Thought about removing the flaps, but dont want water getting pushed too far up into the exhaust manifolds as it sits in the water all summer where there is decent boat traffic.

Wish there was a nice X22 around me here, unfortunately I personally dont have the $$ to buy a boat being in college, so Ill stick with using my parents ones for now.  And do some minor mods to the Epic while Im at it.
