Factory stereo system on SX22 ?
« on: March 23, 2010, 05:50:42 am »
How is the sound quality on the factory stereo system on a 01 SX22  with tower speakers.  Looking at what upgrades to do to the boat before summer and curious on opinions on minimum upgrades>  I have sorted through the long thread on stereo upgrades but curious to see what others think of the stock system  ( have not go the boat home yet)

thanks

The deck is OK, a kenwood 4xxx series CD, mine came with the upgraded factory amp and Bose 151 tower speakers. The amp is a KAC 648 four channel 25 watt/channel that you can bridge to 3 or 2 channel. Good amp for boat speakers. Speakers are super sucky kenwoods that should be cast aside and replaced with anything else that fits. I put Polk Momo's in. Ditto on the Bose tower speakers. I'd add an amp or two depending on how big you wanna go, and put a couple wetsounds up on the tower and build a sub box. I've got one 1200 watt class D sub amp (cheapo works great) powering two JL W6 subs, a 10 (drivers footwell) and a 12 (rear storage behind rear seat) One 300 watt amp powering the tower, I have a 4x 6x9 tower box.

Factory speaker wire is pretty decent sized marine wire, 14 gau. I think. The factory wired the tower speakers to two channels of the kenwood amp, and the left and right pairs in parallel on the other two channels. It is a good amp, I've owned several over the years. It's mounted behind the drivers side aft backrest.
