Starting Epic S22 after long term storage? HELP??
« on: May 02, 2013, 00:11:18 am »
Just picked up a 1999 epic S22 has been sitting in storage for 3 years. The owner drained all the oil and gas out of it prior. Are there and precautions i should take or anything i should check for or replace before starting it? obviously add oil and gas first. Anything particular i should do besides that? Engine has about 30 hrs. Lexus vx300i engine.

If it were me, I would:

1. Pull the plugs and squirt some cylinder fog in there to help oil the cylinder walls.
2. Turn it over by hand (Using a ratchet on the crank) a few times to spread the oil.
3. Put the old plugs back in, start it up, let it run for a bit
4. Replace the plugs with new plugs

I would also consider draining and replacing the oil and filter after letting it run for a bit... If it sat with zero oil in the motor, there may be some corrosion starting to form.

I would also plan on replacing the water pump impeller... You may even want to do this prior to starting the boat up.

Hopefully some of the other members will chime in with their opinions. There's a number of very experienced and knowledable owners on this board.

Wow.. 30 hours!!! Where did you find this?

Change the fuel/water separator filter before you start it. The previous suggestions on spraying fogging oil is a very good idea.
And definitely change the oil soon after you run it.

I had bought a Yamaha R1 motorcycle and put it on craigslist as soon as i bought it just for giggles to see what someone would be willing to offer for it. This kid messaged me and wanted to trade his boat straight up for my bike. I was a little hesitant at first bc i didnt know what i was getting myself into but i said what the hell...money wise it was a great decision. He threw in a new wake board he had too haha. The boat is in immaculate condition. It was always covered. No fading or anything. The kid grew up rich so i dont think he cared about the value difference of the two but he didnt care since he obviously needed a bike.

Anyhow, im going to be changing my impellar and since no oil or gas has been in the engine I will be adding those. and ill pick up some "cylinder fog" and ill let you know how it goes.

Thanks for the feedback. Oh yeah, and as soon as i get it up and running and everything is smooth with it I will be posting it for sale like i did my bike.
