Dinged prop
« on: April 30, 2012, 01:14:11 am »
I dinged my prop pretty bad this weekend doing my good deed and being punished for it.  You guys have any experience with a reasonable price to get it rebalanced if possible?  It's a stainless 4 blade but don't know the pitch since Ive never had reason to pull it.  Are props for epics brand specific?  Thanks for any info.

Not specific. A local shop will be able to tell the pitch.

Stainless... bring the big-check-book.

Thanks guys.  It's a Epic 22 (Cyclone's old boat).  Local marina states "$150" for prop reconditioning.  We'll see.  Gonna pull it this weekend and let them check it next week.  The do props every Wednesday.

For $100-150 I might get it fixed to have a spare, honestly the best thing I did to my E22 besides swap out the CD player for one with iPod hookup was install an Acme prop.  I have a DD so 1" shaft and mine's been converted to LH rotation (backs to the right) so the prop I used probably wont work for most people, an Acme 541.  There are times I wish Id gotten the 543 with a little more pitch as I can still redline the engine at 6k with 2 people and a half tank of gas, but Im still very very happy.  Think I paid ~$400 for mine 3 summers ago (this will be the 4th iirc).  Burns almost the exact same amount of gas but actually has holeshot now and the midrange is phenomenal.

Just my .02, I understand that its hard to justify $400 when you can get yours fixed for $150, just think about it though.  My boat only gets ~30-50hrs a year and it was still worth every penny IMO.

Finally got my prop back...it was ready two weeks ago, but life, wife, and kids have kept me busy.  Local marina fixed the prop...$150.

I've been reading alot of older posts with the benefits of going with ACME props.  I'm running a 13 square pitch 4blade now.  I'm looking for recommendations.  Needs more holeshot for sure.  I'm getting up there in hours, but the boat never hiccups.  Just looking for more giddyup out of the hole.  When I run the ballasts full and pull a heavy wake boarder you can feel the engine groan.  I top out now around 40-41 and could care less if I loose top speed.
