1999 Prop/Transmission Ratio
« on: May 31, 2012, 19:59:07 pm »
Well I am newer to the site got my Epic last summer, now workgin to make sure that everythign is completely up to par.

I am looking to get a new acme prop for my stock 1999 Epic 21.
The tag on the transmission was cover with the black paint so I scraped it off and based on what I can see, here is the information that came off of the transmission:
Hurth Transmission
Model# HSW 450 A2 1.25
A=1.26 B=1.26

Based on what i can find about this information, it is a 1.26:1 ratio.
Does anyone know if this is correct?
Does anyone know what facorty rotation for the prop was for this boat?
I assume to check this you would look at the prop from the rear of the boat and verify that it either turns to the left or to the right when running in the forward position, is this correct?

Any help with this is greatly appreciated!
Ryan

Colorado,

Welcome to the forum!  There are some very knowledgeable and helpful owners here.  As far as the rotation of the prop, I get easily confused about which way is left and right.  So, I use the right hand rule as a 'visual guide' to help me keep it straight.

When I put my right hand on the prop shaft and observe the way my fingers curl around the shaft, I try to imagine the prop turning slowly the direction of my curled fingers and see if the direction my thumb is pointing agrees with the direction the propeller would travel.  If everything agrees, then I'd guess its a right hand prop.  If not, then its a left hand prop, and I'll put my left hand on the prop shaft to check the guess.  Thanks to Wikipedia for the nice drawing these many words try to describe.  ::)  Hope this helps...

I have a 99 Epic 21 also. Test results above. I use this boat for 3 event pulls. Hope this helps.
