Impeller change
« on: June 25, 2012, 03:18:21 am »
I've been replacing annually (mostly) just the impeller, but realized the o-ring was flattened and a bit brittle. West Marine offers the Johnson 812 kit that includes impeller, o-ring and a gasket ($39.99).   WM P/N 4608162

Gasket doesn't fit, but M1UZ manual shows no gasket, so we're cool.

Anyhoo, learned from overhauling my 1995 Toyota 22RE engine that o-rings go bad with time.

Do you know where to find the seals for these pumps, was able to find replacement bearings.  Had to buy a kit just for the seal.

I had to rebuild my pump last summer, both bearings failed and it slung the belt then pegged the temp gauge.... not a good day on the lake.....

I got everything to rebuild the pump, including seal from motion industries, http://www.motionindustries.com/.... Ill see if I can dig around and find the part numbers for the bearings and the seals...... I think total it cost me $40 with shipping......

if you can get the old seal out and take it up to them, they might be able to match it.

I did not replace the shaft..... but there was nothing wrong with it.....and I am not sure motion would have that, I think that is a custom part to the epic.

There is a Motion Ind.close to us.  They were able to get the bearings not the seal, thanks I'll try them again .  The part # would be fantastic, no rush we have a spare pump now.  These boats run good at altitude?  Live in Steamboat during the winter, going to move there when I retire and take a Toyota to the reservoirs.

I could not find the original boxes I had but I did find my invoice from Motion.

The information I found on the pump has the following part numbers:
16x28x7 DPSM Lip Seal
6203 2 RSLST BEARING
15.3 X 2.4 551586 NBR70 O-RING

MY Motion invoice has this:

For the bearings -
1 00775 6 04972 00051851
6203 2RSJEM(C3) BRG
POPULAR 200&300 SER B.BRG

For the seal -
16X28X7 CRW1 R NITRILE SEAL 2 00165 R 01220 00602875

I reused the ring clip and o-ring, I just ordered 2 bearings and the lip seal.
