Which Steering Cable do i need?

Ok, I think i am going to start with replacing the steering cable after lubing the system did not help with my jacked up steering.  I have a 2000 X22 and need to know which steering cable I need to replace the one i got.  Someone please tell me so i can get it ordered.  I have to have it on by next tuesday...

I have a guy in Midland who's been working on my boat for a year or so. If you want someone to take a look at it before you start replacing parts, I'll give you his number.

ya know that may be worth it.  Who knows what the deal is.  The rudder is not bent, the prop seems fine, and it runs great.  just darned steering issues when turning to the left.  Dont know why just figuring its the cable.  And its probably a wise idea to get another cable seeing as parts are going to be scarce before long.  but please PM me his number if you get a chance.

I have to use logic it is the first cable we used so it number is lower...

Look at cable where to rubs near exhaust and under engine for damage.
Also beore you order it remove tiller arm bolt. move rudder at tiller arm by hand is the effort easy in both direction....

I will disconnect it and try it.  If it moves freely without the cable i am assuming the cable is bad?  Thanks for the heads up i will get back with you on ordering it if the tiller is hard to turn otherwise...

Old thread bump.  Any recommendations for a particular steering cable or brand?  Replacing my cable this year, can’t seem to source OEM for my 2000 Epic 22.  Here’s whats in my basket currently.

There is an incorrect part reference in the forum to an 18 foot cable on the direct drives. 19 foot is required. Good luck replacing!

Thanks for the information! I have a question for Rick on the subject. I happened to buy the one "rack and pinion" steering cable from the obsolete parts site, because it was so cheap. I'm curious what Epic model used these and if I can or should use it on my 2001 SX? If not, I can offer it to someone who can use it.
