Background: Boat has a full tank of gas and has been in storage for last two years. Last tank was Chevron but not 100% sure ethanol free.
Boat goes into gear and I can motor around slowly just fine. RPM < 1,000. If I “gas it” the RPM’s quickly go above 1,000 but do progress. After a second or two the engine begins to sputter. I am assuming that the motor is flooding so I do not leave the throttle open I pull back to neutral. The motor either stops, drops to idle or drops to idle with a brief spike in RPM.
I don’t help per se, but if some here wants to give me feedback I would gladly take it. I am planning to syphon some of the gas and check for water, poor the contents of the fuel filter into a jar to check for water, replace fuel filter and replace the plugs.
Searched and found a “limp mode” post. I will see if I can find the fuel return line, but am worried about potentially popping off or breaking a fuel line.
“I had the same problem last year. Took months to figure it out. Turned out to be a short at the fuel pump. I'd check those straight away to make sure they work. If they are running you can feel them vibrate when you prime the fuel rails (red botton at the back of the engine. If the boat stalls when trying to go, clamp off the fuel return line with vice grips (at the fuel pumps) and try it again. If the boat doesn't stall you have a bad pump, loose connection or a short. PM me if you'd like.”
