Winterization
« on: October 20, 2015, 00:51:40 am »
Remember to winterize you engine, transmission cooler, speedometer hose ( remove at MDC and blow out on hose),Shower , and Heater for the winter its going to be a bad winter.
The port side engine can be drained by removing lower oil cooler hose at oil filter. Leave fuel as low as possible and best to use fuel conditioner to prevent the fuel pumps from rusting inside.

I thought we were supposed to fill the tank as much as possible to minimize the air space which reduces water intrusion?

Also, I'm taking my boat out of the water this weekend. I think it will fit in the garage (thank God for the folding tower). Has anyone tried using a heat blanket or other source to keep the engine compartment warm?

Columbia's not quite as cold as Atlanta

I'm wondering about a heater too but the boat smells like gas when i take the cover off so I'm concerned about a heater sparking

The fuel tanks permeate so many grams of fuel as the tanks get older and the alcohol in the fuel accelerate  the permeability. Suggest a minimum fuel level.  Winterize the engine what do you do if you loose power then the water will freeze the block will crack . It is good for me because you will buy an engine from me, But better to take care of your investment.
The number one reason I sell engines is cracked blocks from not winterizing the boat.

Another reason to leave tank as empty as possible is that gasoline with ethanol only has a self life of 90 days and begins to loose octane. What start the next season with 20 gallons of BAD gasoline?

What is the best way to empty the gas tank, besides running it low?

I always used a siphon and 5 gallon gas cans, but I bet you could run the fuel pumps and do it that way also at the return to tank rubber hose.

Leave the fuel in tank but add conditioner.
In order to pump fuel out remove return hose at fuel pump and install 3/8 hose to fill an approved tanks. Turn key on press and hold F/P switch.
