looking for someone to clear a code
« on: August 04, 2015, 23:12:45 pm »
01 sx in limp mode
does anyone know of a shop in Northern California that can read and clear a code. The alternator issue has been dealt with, and my mechanic, the Toyota car dealer service, and  several other shops cannot communicate with my boats computer. 3 places have said all I have to do is clear the code, no other issues. Running like a top to a point. Thanks

Might have to rent the tool from capt rick, there are other ways to communicate with the obd2 engine computer but that is the quickest (most expensive) way. I would search the forum because wakejunky posted a lot on that subject

The reason you are having trouble is because the Epics are not OBDII compliant even though the plug looks the same as a standard OBDII connector ...

Another option is to get one of these cheap chinese knockoff cables and hook it up to a laptop, more info here - http://www.epicmarine.com/forum4/index.php?topic=2342.0 .  They cost around $30 on eBay.

Hey guys, this is robin's son and I want to thank you guys for the help. I didn't know that she had posted in a forum about fixing our boat, and if I did, I would have been on here a very long time ago.

I bought that knockoff ebay cable which came with the toyota program, and used it on virtual pc on an old windows 7 laptop. It worked perfectly and I was able to communicate with the boat which a handful of shops and mechanics could not do in the past two years. After thousands of dollars invested in our problem (boat was running in limp mode, rev limiter at 3k rpm/ 9mph) all the boat needed was a new MAF sensor. So I bought one on ebay for $40 and the boat runs like a champ again.

If anyone needs help navigating through the ebay knockoff program I'll answer any questions. I could also post a step by step tutorial with screenshots if needed.

Huge relief that the SX runs again, can't thank you guys enough!
