Serpentine Belt
« on: August 31, 2004, 02:18:54 am »
I'm in need of a new serpentine belt for my '99 Epic.  There are Toyota and Mitsuboshi part numbers on the belt.  I have called Toyota and Lexus dealers and they tell me the part number is invalid.  Does anyone have a source of these?  Thanks

I bought a spare for our Epic 22, and I just picked up a belt for a  1999 Lexus GS 400, and it is within a half an inch of the stock belt.  This is not a problem due to the belt tensioner on our engines.  The belt fits due to the raw water pump being located in the same spot as the AC compressor  on the GS.

Thanks re-pete !  I'll check it out tomorrow.  When I called a Lexus dealer the part number was very different from the original Epic #.  I was sure it wouldn't fit.  Thanks for the help.   Dave

My belt came apart on me today (less than 300 hours) and luckily I noticed it quickly (it was louder than normal and I noticed the temperature start climbing).  After I opened the engine bay, it was obvious the belt was off and not usable.  I found this post about Serpantine belts, and tried to find one at my local auto parts store.  I didn't find a Mitsubishi or Toyota one, but did find something called a gatorback (Poly-V) belt or a duralast (Poly-V) for the LS400.  They are 6 ribs and 87.5 inches long.  Has anyone use anything other than the Mitsubishi or original Toyota?  I would like to fix it tomorrow, but I am worried the local belts might not be what I need.  Thanks, for the help.

It's a car engine. If the book says it will fit it probably will. go wakeboarding!

Thanks for the quick replies.  I bought a goodyear gatorback (part #4060882), designed for a GS400 and it worked great!  I also bought a cheaper belt for an on the lake spare.  Quick fix and I went ahead and replaced my impellar while I had everything opened up.

Thanks again

I also replaced my belt/impellar today...Ktown and I have learned that the GS400 belt (the one Ktown posted) is the better fit for our boats.  I bought the LS400 belt (ended w/ 875 vice 882) and it was too tight.  Picked up the 882 and it fit like a glove!  Also, whoever posted the impellar changing guide...thanks it was spot on!  One quick question in regards to replacing the shaft packing.  The slides that are in our "maintenance" section has a slide that talks about re-aligning the engine.  Do you have to do this if you change your packing? I was about to attempt it today but decided not to once I saw that slide.  Any advice?  Thanks.

You do not have to realign the eangine. You do not remove the drive shaft to change the packing. Good luck on the repacking. It takes a while to do but you get the satisfaction that you did it.

Just recently broke my serpentine belt and replaced it with the 99 GS400 dayco belt and works like a champ.

And wow this thread is old, WHOOPS!
