winterize with antifreeze or dry
« on: November 26, 2016, 16:02:29 pm »
Finally winterizing my boat.  Need opinoins on draining versus running antifreeze.  Also, fog through air  intake while running or directly into the cylinder?  If through intake, do i remove the flame arrestor? Inboards are a whole new ballgame for me.  I appreciate all of your help!

Mine's a closed cooling system so I don't have to drain the block.

I drain the manifolds, sea strainer, and heat exchanger. I fog directly into each cylinder and pull the lanyard off before I crank the engine to let it turn over a few times. Don't let it fire or you'll burn off the fogging oil.

Fog directly into cylinder. I drain the block but this yr I poured some anti freeze in after I drained it via the heater hose connections on top of the intake near the back of the block. They are typically capped off unless you have a heater. Pull the oil cooler hose to drain, and pull the thermostat, there's always a bit of water behind it. Drain the seawater strainer and the vdrive cooler. One of my block drains is seized but the oil cooler hose gets almost all the water out of the block
