Broken Window Screws
« on: June 01, 2017, 23:27:04 pm »
Well, I guess after years of riding on choppy water, the screws that secure the window to the hull have snapped in a few spots, and it is starting to rattle. Is there any way to take the windows apart, or do I need to replace them?

Remove the black trim on base of frame. Get a long 1/8 inch drill bit and resecure winshield in 3 spots you can use bolt and washer and locknuts. in two other areas us a stainless screw. use clear silicone on the threads.

What he said

use large fender washers on the underside to increase the holding area. Nothing better than bolt through attachment. just using  screws into fiberglass will always have issues down the road.

Wow. Can't believe I didn't try removing the trim. As soon as I peeled it back, the heads of the broken screws were all trapped in there.

Capt, I did what you said. I got a 1/8" bit and a bag of #6 x 2" machine bolts at Lowe's for $2. (I already had a stash of washers) Easily could have dropped down to a 1" bolt. I had a lot of threads, but there is plenty of room to get a deep well on there.

Only one we couldn't get to was the one directly under the tower swivel. Weird position with the drill. All I did was move it back until I was able to drill a straight hole.

The window is tight like a tiger!
