After shaft repacking, no drip
« on: June 22, 2023, 12:40:02 pm »
Long story short, the first day I bought my boat the alternator died, and I got stuck on a bunch of rocks bending the strut and drive shaft.  After a couple grand, and having a new custom drive shaft machined, we finally got it working again, but the boat mechanic repacked the drive shaft seal and he says he cannot get it to drip.

Is it common to not have much drip at first? We've tried loosening the nut and still no drip.
Am I in danger of burning something up and damaging something or just the teflon used to repack?
Or do suggest we need to consider re-packing it completely?

hand tighten as much as you can then back out one full turn run boat ad recheck it every hour then after 20 hours
1 drip a second
