sun protection
« on: October 18, 2004, 20:55:52 pm »
I need some sun protection for the wife and kids next summer. What are everyones favorites? I was thinking of making a trampoline out of pvc with sunbrella snapped on so i could remove it. I would also like to place it above the speakers with a cut out for them so it is higher. Do you think it is possible?/strong enough?/look cheesy?/how to secure it? Any thoughts appreciated!!

The cheapest option is sunscreen -- I prefer Coppertone, or Hawaiian Tropic (you know, for the ladies).  ;)

I wouldn't do the PVC deal, my guess is it would wobble like crazy, and would end up looking like...well...PVC.  Everybody here swear's by the Toyota tramp tops, I'd go with one of those.  I have a bimini that fits inside my tower, it works pretty well, but I used it maybe 3x this summer...only on the really long days in the desert sun, or when I had somebody with me who was prone to sunburn.  The bimini works well but sits very low. You have to duck to get underneath it.

My SX has the shade on the top of the tower (see photos section).  It works nice because you don't have to duck and it doesn't get in the way of the towrope the way it was designed.

I believe a local shop canvas shop designed and built it for my dealer (Marine Products - Salt Lake City).

This could be another option for you in addition to the bullfrog or coppertone.

I have a smaller bimini that isn't factory.  I like it because it is very tight. I don't have to take it down when the wind picks up, I could probably tow with it on.  Of course, with it under the tower, I had to mount my speakers above.  The lights still fit underneath.  You do have to duck a little to get under it, but no big deal.

I love the idea of the aluminum trampoline, but think it's just too small as-is. Someday I'd like to build a larger one with a spring-loaded hinge in back sort of like a plane's flap so that if it will bend when the rope hits it while under load. Mine would probably fit over the tower and extend pretty far aft.

I have a 2001 SX22 I had a second bimini made that attaches to the tower and goes all the way to the back of the sun deck.  I have to lay the bow down to waakeboard but it's great when we're not towing.  The bow mounts by the rear pop up cleats with strap cleats below the trunk.  I had to play with the position to get it right so that it doesn't get in the way when down.

Capt Rick, thanks for the list. It looks as though it came from the 'TMS inventory software', and that the last item might be system-wide inventory.

1) are those prices wholesale or retail?

2) if we assembled a short list of unrelated items we were most interested in, would you run them for us?

3) Is the 'TMS inventory' only spread between dealers, or is there a 'warehouse' too?

4) Is the 'warehouse' in GA? Is it actually Atlanta Marine?

5) Is it true that there is at least one container full of TMS inventory up in the Washington area?

Thanks in advance,

No doubt! It's not Atlanta Marine, I know every part they've got! I see the tower hat in purple, I need a grey one.

Thanks Capt Rick! I'm getting the tower cover thingy ASAP. It serves no purpose at all other than being cool.
