Bearing buddies
« on: March 13, 2005, 17:47:43 pm »
Lesman and I got together yesterday to work on his trailer. He has a single axle, which uses some big ass and difficult to find bearings and seals. He also has bearing buddies. His hubs had some adaptor rings that make Bearing Buddies fit. Pretty cool. I would have taken more pics but we were greased up to the elbows. Les is gonna call Ameratrail and try to get part numbers for all this stuff. I don't know if the hubs on a dual axle trailer will accept Bearing Buddies, but if not maybe they sell adapter rings for them too. I want to get rid of my worthless fake bearing buddies asap, my wheels are always greased up.

Les has also volunteered to build a DB for the Epic Registry. Since there is a limited number of these boats, we ought to be able to track them as they change owners, and provide a history for known boats. Pretty cool!

Les's S22 is clean as a whistle. His was the first V drive I've been able to crawl all over and check out up close, look in all the compartments, etc. What a nice boat! It is HUGE compared to a lot of other V drives from other manufacturers, but it is an inch shorter than my boat. Most other Vdrives make me a little claustrophobic, the knee knocking thing, but not an Epic V drive.

Yea, I had a blast checking out Pete's ride and especially his sweet a** new stereo head unit. Big wow factor! And is Polk Audio bass cabinet mounted in the driver's kick panel. Cool. Thanks again, Pete, for taking a look at my wheel bearings. That's probably the most thankless  job on the whole boat, and messy.  We managed to repack one side, and I'll call Ameritrail tomorrow and try to get a full parts list.

Cal, I think I ended up with your Kenwood 10 disc changer, and 45watt factory head unit to run it.   Thanks again, Pete. I slipped in the new stereo today and mounted the changer against the kick panel in front of the driver's seat on the left. We'll see if it skips like a motha. I'm thinking, though , if I mount it farther back toward the transom, might not skip as bad. We'll see how it goes.

OK, so now I'm officially on the hook for the boat registry. Should not be a problem. I'll set up something similar to the dealer registry. All I'll need to know is what datapoints we need to collect. Model, exterior color, interior color, tower, drive, etc... Someone gimme a list.

Let me tell you for all you guys who don't know already, Pete know is shiznit about Epics.

Pete, post those pics you took if they came out.

I think (I know!) my subwoofer was causing the changer to skip while jamming Humble Pie at 120+db  I wasted Cal's changer trying to get the cartridge out, them things is ornery. You are hooked up with Official Epic burned in and tested stereo equipment from across the land.

I'll start another topic for the registry info, thanks for being "volunteered!"

I didn't know that the Vdrives were shorter until I saw Dereks spreadsheet, interesting. The Vdrive seems like a much larger boat than a D drive, got me thinkin...........SX!!

Original dealer, prior/original owner info if available, transmission gear ratio and prop mfr., diam, pitch. I'll think about this one some more on my five hour drive to Yuma this morning.

I called Ameri-Trail today and got some good info coming. Talked to Angie. Very nice. I ordered 2 sets of everything for the single axle wheel assembly: Inner bearing (HUGE-hard to find), outer bearing, seal, nut(common fine thread), nut cap(special, hard to find) and the washer(with the notch).

PLus, I checked on the spare tire rack that hangs under the belly. They have NONE LEFT, but she said they would make me one for $35 and make it black to match the trailer. Cool.

She also said she would make copies of all the parts lists for the single and tandem trailers with reference numbers. When I get it, i'll compare to what is aleady on the site under trailer maintenance and add anything new.

For some reason, prolly because I made Les do all the manual labor and his hands were too greasy to use a camera, all the pics are of Les and two boats. Here's his rig, Toyota all the way!

Here's a pic of Les's single axle 6 lug hub, notice that it has a real Bearing Buddy, there is a stainless steel ring that adapts the hub to fit the piece. Probably available from Ameratrail

So how'd you like the S22, Pete? How 'bout that awesome grey-to-blue fade? Still love that color.

Les, you're the man with the Runner and S22. Cal's got a Runner and X22; Bitzy's a Cruiser and SX, and we're Sequoia and S22.

We so need to get a good 'pictures of your TOYOTA boats and rigs or someting' thread going.
