lubricating steering system
« on: November 20, 2004, 15:06:26 pm »
i am trying to find the two of three grease fittings.  I found the one on the rudder shaft, but I can't find the one on the "tube" or the one on the "pivot".

If you find those other two let me know.  I don't think they exist.  I did my spring preventative mantenance routine and the only one I could find wast the one on the rudder.  I did pull the boot off on the steering cable and packed grease in there, and pulled the cable off the pivot and lubed that up too.  Best I could come up with.

While i was under my dash last night installing the PP module, I noticed the there is a tube about  1.5 ft long extending from the steering assembly. I never noticed it before because it sticks flush into the left side under the dash...as if it goes through it like the actual stering cable does. There is a red cap at the end that will probably come off. I looks like you squirt grease in there to lub the steering cable.

How does that work? What kind of grease?
