1999 X22 with 500 hrs, opinions please
« on: April 14, 2005, 21:11:32 pm »
Hey Toyota Enthusiasts

I am considering buying a 1999 X22 with 500 hours.? I have test driven the boat and was impressed with the smooth power of the Lexus engine.? The only concerns I have are that there was some vibration throughout the boat at 30 mph and up and the fact that it has 500 hours.? Supposedly the reason for the vibration is a 4 blade prop that was dinged and refurbished, so I asked the seller to put on his 3 blade that is in perfect shape.? I will drive it again once he switches out the props, if the vibration is gone and if I find no other issues with the boat should I have any reservations about the engine having 500 hours on it.

Thanks
Justin

A fella once told me that for each hour on a boat, is like 50 on a car, so it's like buying a car with 25,000 miles on it.  Just gettin' broke in.

In my opinion, the vibration is probably the prop, I bet you'll see a big difference next time out. ?I wouldn't worry about the hours, as some of the folks on the site will undoubtedly point out, it's just getting its rings in shape. ?X-22 is great, what kind of watersports are you in to? ?What is the selling/asking price? ?Where is it located?

My 2000 has 0ver 600 hours, it runs like a top. Toyota Epics routinely ran 3000 hours before rebuilds at THe Wakeboard Camp in Fla., with weight and people every day, all day.

I have 20 more 120 hr (my avg) seasons before it's time for a rebuild :) These boats are built for the long haul. If it is a dealer, whine and cry and get them to drop the price. It is just getting broken in.

I'd second that it is HIGHLY likely that the prop has a ding, very common problem. No big whup, knock 500 off the price and buy an Acme 3 blade.

Juzz man,

Don't do it. Everybody talks these Toyotas up like they were the best thing since sliced bread. I just traded my 2001 Epic SX straight across for the sweet ride you can see on the left. Don't drop the cash for the Epic. Instead, give me a call, and I'll hook you up with one of these babies for a mere 20K. The best thing is, they only have 300 hours on em when I can get em. Yes sir, give me a call and I'll hook you up with the best wake you've ever ridden. The hotties love the ride too.

Actually, I am a multi Epic owner who loved my X-22 until I traded up to an SX. I would suggest you jump on it if the price is right.

Nice boat Bitz. It has more storage than a Nautique! Did the guy throw in the sporty hat?

The hat and the Gilligan shirt too. I have bargaining skills. We'll see how she fares on the rollers at Mead this weekend.

know of a jet boat in NZ which has two lexus installed side by side.. they were 2nd hand motors from cars so had more than 80,000miles when put into the boat.. these engines work everyday day minimum and crusing rpm of 4000rpm!!  now have over 2000 hours each on the clock of fault free running...   500hours on a new motor should be ok ;) :P ;D ;D
