OBD-II connector
« on: June 17, 2004, 13:03:30 pm »
Does anyone know if the OBD-II connector is fully compliant? I have an ISO interpreter and can't communicate with my PC. This is our second season with the Epic and we've been having some engine trouble this year. :-\
We changed the plugs and fuel filter, checked the connections on each of the coils and reset the computer. That seemed to do wonders. ;D
I would still like to see some real time data when the engine is running and any fault codes that might arise. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Do you have the engine manual?

When you get it working, please do a dump here. I don't know of any other epicmariners that have a scan tool. Curious!!!

I'm gonna buy one when I have an extra 300$. I will ask my mechanic about it next time I see him. I know they have the official Toyota obd2 scanner.

Toyota scan tools can not read the computer. I was at a Toyota/Lexus/Chevrolet dealer today and none of their scan tools will read the ECM. Maybe Capt Rick will help us out with the information on what is needed to get the information out of the ECM along with the fault codes and what they mean.

I have been told that some Scan tools will not read any data. I think the only time the scan tool will be needed is if there is a trouble light that stays on. If you turn off the battery switch and send the computer it will not store a code.
I will offer a rental of the scan tool.

The scan tool will not tell you if the spark plugs are bad, or bad fuel pump.

Wow that could be very cool. I think we can probably figure out most issues without the scan tool but it could be very handy for hard problems. I'd like to rent it for the weekend and take some readings, document some crap. What'd that run?
