3 hopefuly simple questions about a 01 SX
« on: June 22, 2006, 21:12:43 pm »
Hey guys,

I bought on 01 SX a little while ago and have a few questions.?

1. How does the ballast switches work?? There are four buttons (Fill, Drain, P Trim, S Trim).? What does each button do?? More specifically the two trim buttons (do they fill or drain or just select which side to do)?? And does the boat have to be in the start position to fill or drain (for the fill gages to work it does but it sounds like the pumps are filling in the ACC position also).?

2. The blower has stopped working and I can't seem to find it.? I looked at the maintenance manual on the site but I still can't find it.? It feels like it might be in the tiny battery compartment but I can't see in there well enough to tell.? Does anyone know for sure?

3. My accuski hour meter seems to reset when I turn the battery switch off.? Is this normal?? Is there someplace I can read the total hours on the engine?

Thanks

Sean, welcome.

1. Dunno.

2. Check the circuit breakers under the dash first. My recollection is that the blower is on the stbd side above the battery. Basically, there's a bulkhead panel separating the v-drive locker and the battery compartment. I don't recall if there is an L-bracket inside the battery compartment that secures the bottom of that bulkhead, but I think you've got to find the way to get that bulkhead out. Inside (actually in the seat-back area) is where I think/thought that blower is. At the top of the panel on the v-drive compartment side (aft side) there are a few capped screws securing the bulkhead to fiberglass. Take the top capped screws out and then see if you can slide the bottom of the bulkhead aft. If not, there's a bracket in there. Remove it and then slide the bottom of it aft until the top edge is freed from the fiberglass structure. If it's not in there, I'll be a little embarrased ;-(

3. My S22 has hours displayed on the Tachometer and in the Engine menu of the Message Center. They don't agree because when the dash computer is replaced, the Message Center engine hours are flushed. If you don't have the engine hours on your Tach, it sounds like you get to pick your hours. I've thought about installing an analog Hobbs meter back on the engine somewhere but have found it easier to just keep track of engine hours on the garage wall (relax, inside drywall special area reserved for Epic hours and fuel useage - really great I'll take some pics sometime :-)

FYI, the first summer I removed every piece of upholstery except the engine and trunk covers. Long story, no pics.

My bad. It's not in that compartment, it's under the gunnel in the stbd v-drive compartment.

So, here's how the ballast works. To trim the boat (level the weight in each side) you turn on the fill or drain button at the same time you push the trim button for the side of the boat you are trying to adjust. For example, If you need to add some weight to starboard, push the fill button and then the starboard trim button. If you want to drain some weight only out of port, you push the drain button and then the port trim button. The drain part is miserably slow.

1. So if I press the fill or drain button without any trim buttons nothing will fill or drain, correct?

2. After a little digging around in the boat it seems that it is actually behind the stbd seat (in front of the V-Drive compartment).  So you were right the first time, at least for my boat.

Thanks for all the info.

Nope. If you push the fill button and no trim button, it will fill both ballast tanks port and starboard. When you push the trim button and fill button, it only fills the side who's trim button you are pushing. The same for draining.
