Load Leveling Systems
« on: July 06, 2006, 13:37:01 pm »
Hey guys,

I blew another Air Lift bag in my 4runner this weekend (2nd time).  I think the combination of the heavy boat weight and constant rub against the springs isn't ideal.  What other options are there?  Derek, have you had any trouble with your Firestone bags?  Are there any bags that are more heavy duty?

I skipped the bags and went with Air shocks.  3 years old and no problems, handle the loads and no leakage or blow outs.  Air em up to tow and drop the pressure for just ridin around.  Looks like gabriel shocks have an applicatation for the 4-runner, you might want to try that way.  No clearance problems or rubbing.

Cal, I noticed that your new trailer looks like there is a lot more weight on the tongue than with your old one. You might be able to adjust the position of the axles to change this, or move the front bow support back a bit. You might want to check the tongue weight, should be 10% of the total weight.

Cal, I wouldn't know how the F my bags are doing - haven't towed the boat since February.

The good news is that baseball's almost over, and we hope to hit Havasu July 15-16 and July 29 through August 6. Hopefully we'll get another long week over Labor Day and a couple short weekends. Lots of making up to do. On track to miss my already horrible 40 hours/year.

No, so far no problems with the bags, and I think they're really pretty cheap, too.

I have one of those auto-leveling dealios on my Armada.  It does a pretty good job.  I do seem to loose a bit of handling, but who is running a slalom course while pulling the boat anyways...
