New Owner Questions
« on: September 03, 2006, 15:49:37 pm »
I have had my 2000 Epic 22 for 3 weeks and love the boat. I do have some problems and hope to get answers.

1) I am having temp. issues. I will follow the advise of the forum and try a new impeller, clean the sea strainer, check the thermostat, and run a wire from the neg. post to the ground. Is the thermostat a toyota marine part, or can I pick one up at West Marine?
2) Can my air/water temp reading be fixed? If so, how involved is the fix?
3) Is there a way to get my trunk to open wider? The gas struts are only holding it open about half way. Even when I push it open all the way, it is still too small of an opening to get boards in and out easily.
4) I noticed there is a part number for a spare tire mount (side mount). Will this work on a single axle trialer for an E22?

Thanks

Try the impeller before you do all the other stuff -- I bet that fixes your temp issues. On the trunk issue, I have one of the kids hold it open while we arrange and re-arrange. Its a low-tech fix, but it works!

I have a side mount spare tire I got at Boat us that fits fine. I thin it was about $20.00. I have a single axle trailer.

I went to Tractor Supply Co. and picked up a spare mount for mine.  I think it was 18 bucks.

Works, but i wish it had a factor way to Lock the spare to it.  I should be able to drill a hole and lock it down pretty easy though.

I also was annoyed by the trunk opening problem.  The only way around it I could see, was to actually build newmounting arms for the trunk lid.  The arms would have to have the same effective mounting hole locations but with a much larger U-shape.  I don't have the time or desire to do that.  Anyone here have a CNC machine?  I can probably write a program for it that would be correct.

There is a factory fix for the trunklid, a different gas spring mounted in the center. The lid opens all the way and points straight up. Certain 2000 boats and later have the different spring. I'm not sure when they changed it or what the part numbers are. Anyone have one to take pics of?

Thanks for the input. Westtx, I changed my impeller and the old one was completely shot. I am sure that will fix my temp. issues.

Regarding the side mount spare tire bracket. Was that for a 6-lug wheel?

Thanks,
Jake

I think it was a 5 lug side rack, but was able to make it work for 6 lug wheel. i drilled another hole in the bracket with the correct spread.

Here's the pic of the trunk lift located in the center of the hatch from my 2002 SX.

Hope this helps.
