Odyssey Battery
« on: March 07, 2007, 00:23:01 am »
Anyone have any experience with Odyssey batteries?  They make a size that is similar to the Optima batteries (10.9 X 7 X 7.8), which probably won't fit the X22's.  I like Odyssey because they don't used recycled lead and have a better warranty than the Optima.  They are also very common in military aircraft and vehciles (Spec Ops).  Since my Optima didn't seem to last very long, I would like to look at other options.  Let me know if you have any good feedback.  Here is a link if you would like to take a look.

Those batteries look pretty nice!  I'm still a fan of the optima, i haven't had any problems with them thus far.  We can't be sure when that yellow top was put in your boat or where it was before the SX either.  Also, if there is a small draw on your boat, like there is in my 4-runner, it is going to drain any battery when it sits for a long period of time.  peace.  By they way, ordered my new bindings (2007 byerlys) sweeeet!!

Yeah, but if I am going to buy a new battery I would like to get the best bang for the buck.  Until recently the Odyssey has been to large to fit without moding the battery case.  Maybe I'll be the first to try it.  It also lists a 135 minute run time vs. the 120 of the Optima.

Well, after 4 hours, I talked myself in to buying the Odyssey.  Payed 205.00 for it shipped to my house (about the same as an Optima in town).  Came with a 4 year warranty.  I'll take some pics with it installed and let everyone know how it fits and works.

Cool, it's good to have an alternative. My first Optima deep cell only lasted a couple of years, I suspect that it was because I ran it down a lot and didn't have the onboard charger. The second battery, isolator and charger are the first things I'm gonna do to the SX. If I ever get any time at home, that is!

Re: Odyssey Battery/Battery Life Saver

TO  ANY  AND  ALL  INTERESTED  IN  OPTIMAL  BATTERY  LIFE :  I always recommend an inexpensive battery maintenance charger; they can be bought for  $15 - $25 .  If you want the  MAX  out of your batteries check out battery desulfators. I suggest doing a little research to satisfy yourself first. One good web site for information and a product [it is kinda expensive]
is  www.batterylifesaver.com  . I have not purchased their product. I do have an older battery desulfator that I periodically use on all my batteries; like a maintenance charge that desulfates the plates by some 'magic' wave technology. It works. I have brought some old batteies back to life. Anyway, I found the battery saver web site pretty informative.
