Rebuilding fresh water pump.... anyone had success????
« on: April 28, 2011, 03:58:39 am »
I finished getting my fluids changed and ready for the summer... when I was running the motor on the fakelake I noticed my fresh water pump was leaking out of the shaft seal.  I also have some concerns that the bearing on the pulley side of the pump has some wear.  Im sure it was leaking last season and I didn't have any cooling issues, but I think it's about time for a rebuild.  I found a lot of threads with people saying its an off the shelf Johnson pump but I havent been able to find it... so far....

Has anyone out there successfully rebuilt the pump using off the shelf parts?
CaptainRick do you offer a rebuild kit or only a complete pump?

Just have the complete pumps:

1686050010 PumpAssembly,SeaWater     519.44  Special

I am sure you can get the seals for it. But if bearing is bad I would replace pump.

you just need a hydraulic press to press out shaft. seal is like 30 bucks. the bearing you could match up at any bearing shop. www.skidim.com for the seal.

Thanks for the Info.  I may have found what I need.

CaptainRick - Its good info to know the cost and availability thanks you!

I have the ability and know how to at least attempt a rebuild before I spend $500 to replace it.
