A Couple of Rankin Cover Questions
« on: July 16, 2008, 01:54:34 am »
I got my Rankin cover and I've got a couple of questions:

1. It has been in three rainstorms so far.  Twice it drained the rain perfectly and one time it pooled where the arrows are.  Any idea on what's going on and how to avoid the puddles.  I have the trailer tongue jack cranked pretty high to send the water off the back.  Also, I've been tightening the rope that goes under the rub rail tighter with each use.

2. Strap 2 and 4 are sewn to connect with the transom where the "x's" are.  Since there aren't any rings/handles where the "x's" are, what have you guys done?  I'm trying tying 2 & 4 to the outside rings.  I don't know if this contributed to the puddles.  Do you guys tie to the rings or the center handle?

I want to eliminate any pooling so the fabric does not stretch, which is what wrecked the Toyota OEM cover I used to use.

Here's the pic:

Put the three middle straps on the handle in the middle, then the two outside ones on the lift rings. It won't pool if you do that:)

I tie all three middle ones to the handle and the outside ones to the lift rings.  Barely ever get puddling, but man your cover is already stretched more than mine is.  On the back, mine barely comes over the black vents on both sides and barely touches the middle tow eye.

Erik,

It hasn't really stretched.  It was that big from the start.  I do pull the straps as tight at I can, however.

Hello, I just installed my new Rankin cover also. Sure is a tight fit getting it all buckled up. Do people like the curved pieces on the sides that are supposed to catch the rubber edge? They seem to want to slip off when I am trying to pull mine tight. It almost seems like the rope would work better without them. I did adjust them a little with the velcro. Maybe they just need a little more tweaking? I am not so sure I can put this thing on in the water without falling in! On the plus side, Rankin is only about 5 miles away from me so if I have any problems I can just go see them.

Lakeside, interesting to know.  Mine has always been this way but it might have shrunk a little.  Without a doubt though, these Rankin covers are the best ones out there.

6t8amxetc, I figured out a simple solution for this problem as mine does the same thing.  I pull one side over then get the other (if on the water the other is the dockside) and use the straps on the back to hold the waterside down.  Then move to the dockside (pulling the straps through the lifting eyes and the 2 d-rings) and adjust the clips over the side.  Now pull the rope cord tight and do the middle straps.  Ive been adjusting my clips for a few years and its a finessing thing but this procedure is the way I can get it all down the best.
