Serial #
« on: June 06, 2008, 01:06:55 am »
I couldn't find the previous post, but did anyone ever say where the serial # on our engines is at.  I am registering my boat in Texas now and they want me to pencil the serial number and Hull number onto the registration form.  I'm trying to get it done tomorrow before the weekend hits.  Thanks.

It's on top and at the center of the engine block on the front of the engine. Right under the intake manifold.

flyn,
I just bought Sandy's 2001 S-22 v-drive and brought it here to Dallas, and am in the same spot of needing to register it.  I read your post (and masonlk's reply), but could not find the serial number on my engine.  It is the v-drive with the engine pointing towards the stern of the boat.  At the top center of the engine, there is an air filter housing feeding into the intake manifold.  Where is the serial number in relation to that?

Thanks,
Clint

Clint,

Sorry about the late reply.  I actually never found the serial number!!  I saw some sticker with some numbers/letters on it and just wrote those down.  The Texas DOT didn't seem to know the difference and all was good.  It was like 115 degrees in my boat storage and I was getting frustrated looking for it....sorry!  Flyn2001

That's funny that you mention that.  I just got back from my storage location after spending 30 minutes with a flashlight and a mirror looking all over the engine for a serial number; and never found it.  I saw a couple of places where the word "Toyota" was stamped into the metal, but that is it!  I guess I'll have to do the something similar to what you did, and just give it my best shot.  Thanks for the reply!

According to the Engine Repair Manual, it is stamped on the engine block just below the air intake.

I haven't verified this though.

Yep; I read that in the manual as well.  However, I am suspect of its accuracy.  I spent about 30 minutes with a flashlight and a mirror looking all over that part of the engine for a serial number before finally giving up.

It's there. I looked again last Sunday when I pulled the boat out for the winter...sad day. There is an opening between the intake manifold and the block right below the plastic air intake attached to the throttle Assembly. It's stamped into the engine block on a flat ledge. I had to use a small brass wire brush to take off the barrier oxide film that had formed on the exposed aluminum and to remove a bit of paint so that I could read it. Take off the plastic intake (clamp and one small screw) and it will be easier to see.
