ACME Prop 3 vs 4
« on: August 28, 2008, 07:52:36 am »
Ok, before you tell me to read past posts, I did. I read them several times and I think I'm going to go with the 541, BUT,,, Is no one putting 4 blade props on the Toyotas? Here is my biggest issues.  I have the 13x13 OJ (factory) prop on my Epic 22 (direct drive).  It sucks in the hole shot and my BIGGEST complaint is it inability to hold a speed while wakeboarding or sking.  I don't have PP and it's a workout trying to keep a constant speed.  I don't care about top end speed so much, I want to have a good hole shot but I need it to hold MPH better.

In reading the posts, they were very helpfull and I think the 541 sounds the best, but I still wonder if a 4 blade is going to hold a steady  speed better.  I don't really have the $$ to buy two props and see which works the best.  I know this has been discussed prior, but I wanted opinons on my exact issues.  Thanks again, GREAT site!!!!

One more quick question.  If my epic backs up to the right that means I have a Left hand prop. I don't want to order the wrong one.  Thanks for any assistance!!!

The reason the 541 has been working so good is because it allows the engine to rev higher and it has more horsepower and torque in the upper rpm range.  But I have a friend with a 22 direct drive that uses a Stainless OJ 4 blade (I'm not sure which model) that works great for wakeboarding also and he uses a LOT of ballast and is reving about 3900 rpm while wakeboarding

I have 13 x 10.5 ACME 3 blade. I am not sure what the number is, but ACME guy recomended for high altitude( Denver) and heavy ballast driving. This is the only prop that will get my boat on plane since I have upgraded my ballast ( 300 front, 950 + 950 rear) for surfing. Top speed is only around at 32 mile, but all I do is surfing (70 %) and boardind, top speed does not matter to us. If all you care is the quick hole shot with a huge wake, you should consider going down on a pitch. Remember our engine size is only 4.0L compare to others (5.7L), thus need to compensate by lower pitch. I usually board @ 4200 rpm ( 22mph), and surf @ 3200rpm (10 mph)

I had an OJ nibral four blade heavy cup (.080) 13 x 13 LH on my Epic 22. It pulled MUCH better for wakeboarding than the stock 3 blade and was better all around. I'd probably try an Acme if I was buying a new prop for that boat. I'd like to get an acme or even a steel Cutter or OJ prop to try on my SX.
