vibration
« on: May 23, 2009, 17:13:30 pm »
I was wandering how do I perform a shaft alignment.  Is there a place to look up how to do that.  I have a vibration in my 2001 s22.  I am a new owner and I am working through a vibration.  I had the prop tuned and balanced made a small differance.  vibration is still there any help thanks

There used to be a really good document I found on line detailing how to do that on a direct drive. Our alignment procedure shouldn't be significantly different than any other V drive boat.

Here's something I found:

Here is something to keep in mind. Are you running high test? Have you changed the plugs recently?

This happened to me on my direct drive and after retuning two props... it was the regular gas I had put in the tank.

I agree with Pete (no surprise there) - it "could" be your drive shaft but the more likely culprits are "bad" gas (not quality premium gas) or a bad plug(s)

I remember a thread way back about someone chasing down a vibration - even going so far to replace the trans to find out that a cylinder was misfiring - changing plugs solved the issue

Plugs for our boats aren't cheap but if you stay away from marina gas and feed it the good stuff you shouldn't have to do it very often

As long as you didn't hit anything or notice anything out of whack where the shaft comes into the hull it may not be alignment related at all.  Is your prop shaft packing leaking faster than it should?
