Trailer brakes

Okay,

2 questions right away.  Has anybody else had trailer brake problems.  I've got the AmeriTrail single axle trailer with the 5 prong hook up.  In 99 they did work on it.  On one trip to Florida they swapped me trailers for a week while they "fixed" mine.  This trailer seems to always have the brakes on a small amount.  That heats everything up and pops the grease covers and grease off at different times, different objects, and different people (i.e.  while fueling the truck at the pump.)  For now I have bled the lines, but I have no trailer brakes.  I want this thing fixed or I'm getting a new trailer.  Any ideas?  Enjoy the heat.

Hey Bill, glad to have you on the board.  It would seem to me that it's either the actuator sticking or the rotors might be too thick so that the pads drag all the time. You could have them turned if that's the case. If it is the actuator, you could probably have it checked out by a trailer place, rather than a boat dealer. If it is under warrantee then your dealer should cover it.

My trailer has always had a problem blowing grease out on the highway, but it has never farted grease on me while gassing up. That would piss me off! I am going to change to real Bearing Buddies when I get the time to work on it.

Agree with taking it to a trailer place versus a boat dealer. One thing Cyclone didn't mention is that if it's not caliper/disk-related, it could be the actuator, and I think that piece is off-the-shelf.

I really want to replace the fluid and install bearing buddies this year. Good luck, and welcome to the board.

I'll try to make a document on those procedures the next time I tear mine down... Hopefully not soon, I'm having too much fun wakeboarding. I have about 1/2 a winterizing post done, I'll finish it before the end of the season.
