Throttle Problem

I'm pretty new to the forum, but am impressed by the knowledge the members have of the boats.

I have a 2000 X22 and just started having throttle problems. I've read through the old posts, JHawk's post seems similar to my problem, but not exactly.

The problem I'm having is that there's little throttle response between about 10 and 8 o'clock. The boat also won't maintain a constant speed between 2000 and 3000 rpm. If I drop it a bit below 3000 rpm the boat continually slows until I hit about 2000 rpm. I try to increase the throttle slightly, but need to push it forward about 3/4 of the way before the speed increases, making for a jerky ride.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure the throttle body is moving along with the throttle lever. Sounds like it's binding up or something. There is a way to grease the cable i think?

I just had the same problem that you had ktdust.  It was like from 2000rpm and up there was no response and you had to slam it to get it to finally catch and then once you were going and brought it down it would slowly ease off.  I cleaned my MAF sensor like everyone on this site has suggested and it cleared it right up.  I had inspected it many times before and thought it wasn't dirty but boy was I wrong.  More gunk came out of that thing.

Thanks for the advise. I was planning on spending time this week end cleaning the throttle body, maf and flame arrestor. Will lubricate the throttle cable as well. Might as well do it all while I have some time.

Spent a few hours last weekend lubricating the throttle cable, cleaning out the maf, flame arrestor and throttle body. Runs flawlessly now. Thanks for the help lesman01 and cpsharplin.

We've had this problem several times--for some reason the belt shreds lightly and the sensor and throttle body gets coated.
As normal maintenance every 50-75 hrs we clean these parts.

Check for rust on the wheels the belt runs on and clean them and paint

i have the same problem with the belt. leaves a fine belt dust all over the front. runs great but the belt dust annoys me. yeah and i should clean the rust on the pulleys aswell. ohwell rust is my favorite color anyways.
