Tachometer chattering
« on: November 16, 2009, 22:31:23 pm »
i just purchased a 99 epic 21 and noticed the tach chattering and the needle jumping while at idle. is this normal or what would be causing this problem?

Hey, welcome to the site and a typical easy fix for your boat. Plugs should do it, even the cheap ones:)

engine has new sparkplugs, this is not a running issue with engine, but rather a noise issue in tach and the needle jumps 1000 rpms, also tach makes funny noise when key is first turned on.

the tach will make a noise on start. the gages has a test cycle when you turn on the key. in maintenance section of the site there are test procedures or you could pull it out and send to capt rick for testing. enjoy the site and your boat. How much did you pay for your epic and where did you buy it?

thanks for info about maintenance section, i just overlooked it. there is alot of info on this site. i'm hesitant to tell how much i paid, it may destroy future valuations on 99 epic 21's. this boat had one small cut on side interior panel, nothing major. other than that, boat is flawless. do you think $2000 would have been too much for a lake norman, north carolina boat?

no missing 0's, and previous owner priced it. i'm usually the one to negotiate for a lower price but just couldn't bring myself to that this time.

Wreck,  those little cuts on the side panels will KILL the value of a boat!  Yours didnt have any!  So you got the non damaged price!
