1st boat 99 X22
« on: March 15, 2010, 03:28:59 am »
Picked up my X22 today the motor def. sold me on the boat.   However, it it the true blue color with the white rub rail that has some wear and discoloration on it.  I was thinking of replacing the rail with black to show less scuffs.  Is it an easy change to make?  Would I need the whole assembly or just the soft rubber part?  Also, would like some kinnd of bimini top for it is there an aftermarket one that anyone has used?

MRR0010183 RubRail,Soft,55Ft,Black 1  10  145.13  $108.85  $30.00   >

Remove the cap with philiips scres, remove phillips screws holding soft rub rail , Pull off

Do this on warm day when rub rail is soft. To install verify the top : get soft mallet to install : also do when rub rail is warm and soft. apply first all around to face then go back to snap top into rail>
When you get to front you need to get help and maybe use a air blower to heat it to bend>

also the factory top is
MBC0011854 Bimini,Folding,MountsInsideTowTower,Gray,AllModels 25    216.23  $166.67   plus maybe $30 frt .

My car detailer boddy had some heavy duty cleaner that cleaned the rub rail right up.....had a 60 degree day today in AR and had to get out in the boat.  Luckily had the drivers side heat.  Boat doesn't seem to have any issues whatsoever.  Probably going to research into what kinda backup parts I may need to get before parts are hard to come by....

grant west on wakeworld (and planetnautiques.com) forums posted a procedure on sanding down and smoothing out his rub rail. I can't find it but he wet sanded it down in stages starting with 100 grit or so, finally polishing it with 600 or 800 and water. He was able to take out pretty deep gouges from the anchor rope, our rail is bigger and meatier than the nautiques, and is fixable as well.
