depth finder install
« on: April 10, 2010, 17:07:11 pm »
so I got the new module and see where it goes and plugs in but the location is the problem.  it is located in front of the fuel tank under the ballast pumps.  between the pumps and tank is a plate which is over my module and needs to be moved to access it.  how do you get that plate out?  any suggestions?

remove the fuel hoses to the tank and rotate it out towards the drivers seat in a circular pattern, you might have to remove the fuel tank brackets and lift the drivers side of the tank if the fuel tank nipples are in the way. there's a couple pics in an old post of mine titled "new sx ballast" . hope this helps.

i would post some nice pics but apparently the "upload file is full" and the site wont let me.

thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try and let you know how it goes.  will the plate come out too? seems like it fits in a slot and wont lift out due to the floor being at an angle above it..  I'll check out the pics.  thanks again!

My depth transducer was located forward of the plastic barrier so I didn't have to remove it. There was a 3" or so hole cut in the liner and the transducer was glued to the hull. The edges were sealed with silicone but there was a lot of water between the liner and the hull. I soaked it out for weeks with a sponge over last winter, got it dry so the puck would stick better. I'd use a glue that will work with a damp surface if you can. There are pics of that area of the boat in my ballast upgrade posts too;)

I can get to it, just no room to work or use tools..  how did you get the old one loose?  it is glued in there pretty solid it seems.. I'll give it another try next time I bring the boat home.  thanks for the tips!

turns out that factory lowrance depth gauge was discontinued awhile back. i guess its just time for a whole new replacement. but it did last over 10 years.  :)
