thrust washer?
« on: May 19, 2010, 21:54:04 pm »
Maybe someone can set me straight...I recently had my prop fixed up by a local guy and was getting ready to put it back on and was asked by my dad about about the thrust washer. When I took the prop off I only had a single nut(with the nylon locking insert) on the shaft. So I did a search cant find anything. In the online parts list it talks about a coupling flange looks like that might be it. Or am I ok with just the single nut?

Not sure what you are describing.  There is a square pin that is placed in the slot to ensure the prop and shaft spin together.  Is this what he is referring to?

inboard/outboards like Mercuiser use thrust washers but our boats do NOT use them.

hey guys thanks for the help, answered my question. I believe when I took the prop off may have been what threw me, because the lock nut was not seated against the prop. I am going today to put it back on and go for a ride. It is a little windy here today in kansas, so probably just going to go for a test run.  Sorry for the delayed response on my part I work overnight and run daddy daycare with my girls. ;D

Maybe he was just trying to sell me more stuff...but my propeller repair shop told me to never reuse nylock nuts. Just thought I'd pass his advice along.
