2 things I've always wondered:
1. I ALWAYS see posts about overheating problems(or temp reading problems) with our boats, but I have never heard anyone who actually DAMAGED their engine from overheating. although I am sure it has happened...The question is.. what would actually happen and how long would it take running ..say 220 degrees to cause damage??
2. Dry running an engine. Has anyone ever done this and how long is safe? I've often wished I could fire up the engine just to make sure the battery is good before heading to the lake for just a few seconds...but never want to take the time to hook up water so I don;t do it. I do turn the engine over a few times while winterizing just to get the water flushed out without it being hooked up. If the purpose of the water is to keep the engine from getting too hot, then it make sense to me that running without water for 2-4 minutes until it reaches temperature would be safe...but then there's the issue of burning up the impeller...
totally random questions, i know, but thought I would throw them out there...
