I bought a blue top Optima inJune 2003 and am still running it. In fact, I'm such a tight wad, I've been running it my daily driver (94 pickup) for the past year+. Neighborhood lauhs at me pretty good. The thing's still wonderful, holds a charge big time. I let it run down to zero once (light or bilge or something) and after just a few minutes on one of those nice cart chargers, was able to put it back into action and it's been solid since. Highly satisfied and never a threat of leaky acid. OEM Sequoia battery slowly leaks and I've REALLY wanted to go Optima in there but wife terminated the idea.

When I bought a battery a few years ago I was in a bind and couldn't find the "blue/marine" optima battery so I bought the "yellow/SUV" battery.  I have had it for 4 years and never once had a low battery even after sitting all winter.

Besides being way way sealed, they are nice because they only self-discharge at 1% per month, versus 10% per month with a liquid type. Makes it nice for us unfortunate folks that live 200 miles from a good lake. I've seen a friend kill his liquid type by running a maintainer. trickle chargers, etc. are not real nicefor batteries, and really not required with the Optima style of AGM batteries.

I've been buying Optimas for years and years but the last 3 years quality has gone down the crapper and I won't buy one again.  I've had three yellowtops go bad on me in 3 years...won't charge on a 2amp trickle, 15amp charger, or from the alternator.  Just plain old dead!  The first two had the phenominal 7 year free replacement policy but optima now only warranties yellowtops for ONE YEAR  :P I still have one in my landcruiser from 5 or so years ago and it's great, but like I said, the new ones....not so much

I hear the die hard gel-cell/sealed are good, and consumer reports rated them higher than the optimas (cheaper too)
