'11 Roundup
« on: May 04, 2011, 13:14:28 pm »
Rambling Wreck has a great suggestion to stop hi-jacking Lesman's thread about an Eastcoast Roundup.  I'd be glad to meet anyone available in the area while I'm in Clemson at a class until Friday the 6th.  Probably the best time would be Friday PM after the written exam is over.  Anybody game?

I would love to but can't make it up this weekend. Let's keep trying-

And so it goes.....another roundup attempt hits the dust.  I guess we need to pick a date in the future and see who we can get to commit.  1st of all, I like weekdays, no crowds.  Some people can get them off with enough notice, and some cannnot.

Then again, boating is a family thing, so a weekend might get more attendance.  I am up for any weekend day, as long as someone else will get up early (sunrise or so) to pull me before the "tubers" get out of bed.  (I dont mind bothering the fishermen, most have been there all night).  By 11 or so I am toast and real real thirsty.  (hydration becomes my afternoon effort.)

Maybe a Fri/Sat event would be good, it seems that camping is appreciated by the Epic community.

It is important that the Friday people stay, at least until the Sat. folks get there..one of the goals is to see how many Epics we can get in one place.  If half the people leave before the other half get there, this goal attempt will fail.

If we meet and Cyclone cannot make it, anyone who comes with a broken boat will leave with one.

If we meet and Lesman cannot make it, we will have to have another one when he can.  The website would not exist for long without him.

I think thats a start...now if folks would like to start picking dates, Cyclone, Lesman?  any open dates on your calendars?

Here's my $.02.

Organizers we are not. However, if we take baby steps, we may be able to come to a consensus. Decisions in order of priority:

1. Should we make it a family thing or a guy thing? I vote family thing
2. Should we camp or make it one day" I vote for Fri Sat camp. We can reserve several spots together and/or people could just come for the day. We can have a structured "social" group BBQ one of the nights to give everyone a rally point to be there. say 5-7PM Saturday night. Name tags, epic chochkees(still wear my hat Breakaway!), epic awards, etc...(I know pretty cheesy, but hey...)
3. Where should we meet? I vote Hartwell..seems most "central"
4. What weekend? the sooner the better(cooler) or later toward the Fall. With school getting out and vacation, 1st available date for me is June 10th.

If I get positive feedback, I can set up a poll so everyone could vote on the above questions plus any you guys come up with. Then when we have a viable date, send out an evite so we know how many to expect and know how to plan the BBQ.

We'll get Rick to bring a truckload of epic parts to raffle off, too :-)

I used to be really active in a car club and put together several meets like a fall picnic and whatnot... it takes some advanced notice and one person to "champion" the planning.

I would really like to go to a round up, but I dont think Ill be making the drive out the georgia.... 15.9hours away......
I would be interested in putting together a texas or central meet maybe...

We'll I doubt I am gonna make it this year guys.   I'm in Iraq supporting America's awesome TROOPS!   I'll be in the states the last week of June if yall want to make it a weekday.  I could drive down from Nashville for sure but thats pretty much all I have open until August.
Boating is more then a passion- is a lifestyle.
