thanks Cyclone. I found the two yellow wires with the inline fuses and they were both good.  I also worked the shifter back and forth and wiggled it.  I have power to all the red wires under the dash but no power to the purple wires which are the ignition wires correct?  shouldn't they have power?  I was told there is an ignition fuse somewhere but I don't know where it is.. I feel like I've looked everywhere!  Wakejunky got me thinking it could be the depth finder  since I had unplugged the module,  but today I plugged the new one in and still nothing..  I am stumped  :-\  all ideas and suggestions are much appreciated.

I know this sounds dumb, but are you sure the battery is fully charged ?  You should try testing with a multimeter instead of a test light, if your battery doesnt have enough juice I bet that dash cluster computer won't even power on.

If youre still stumped on this by this Sat I wouldnt mind bringing my fluke multimeter over and taking a shot at it.  I'm in NW Austin so youre prolly not far away.

try plugging in the old depth finder module. "when all else fails put it back the way you found it" usually works

wakejunky, I broke the old one when I pulled it out..  but the new one plugged in and seems to be the right one.  One of my batteries is dead but the other is good and I had a charger on it.  I will probably go get two new Interstates for it.

ATXChris, I am in Anderson Mill Rd and have the boat at my house till I fix it.  If you want to take a look at it that would be great.  I didn't know there was anyone else in the Austin area!

Sounds like youre less than a few miles away, im just off spicewood springs exit.

From the symtoms you describe I'm guessing the guage cluster is not getting any power at all.  If it was just the guages acting up, I'm thinking the engine should start.  All symptoms are pointing toward ignition circuit issues.

From looking at the wiring diagrams under the maintenance section, it looks like the ignition circuit runs from the perko to the ignition key switch then when switched on gives power to the purple wire which probably runs through the safety lanyard kill switch then back to the engine wiring harness.  At the engine harness there is an IGSW pin ( look at the 1UZ service manual )  that enables an EFI relay.  The guage cluster appears to be powered from the engine harness ( some relay located there ), but unfortunately the wiring diagrams we have leaves u to follow a vast array of color coded wires to piece together.

Can anyone else confirm these assumptions ?

Maybe just check to be sure all the engine harness plugs on the back of the engine are plugged in, especially if they were moved while doing maintenance ?

yep, Thanks to ATXChris! he came by and figured it out in just a few minutes with a multi-meter and a wiring diagram.  It was just a connection at the switch. I had tried it before but put the wires to the lanyard wrong and was chasing my tail back and forth like an idiot..   ::) But I put it on the water and everything worked great! Ballast is working great with new pumps, motor ran flawlessly with new Royal Purple oil and 2 brand new deep cycle Interstate batteries, steering worked smooth and nice with the new cable and the upholstery looks amazing!  I think the boat is finally complete after all this time!

thats great news! i bypassed that lanyard a long time ago! it gave me problems just like that. a lil jumper wire in between there and no more issues.
