1999-2001 22 ' (mid enngine style) prop depth in the water
« on: September 04, 2012, 03:44:21 am »
Can anyone tell me how deep the prop runs for this boat, unloaded? I am looking to buy one, but I must confirm if the prop will clear my dock lift. Also I need to know the distance from the tip of the bow, to the deepest part of the prop, as I have two cross menbers to clear underwater, and the more shallow one sits forward than the deeper one. I expect I will only need to worry about the deeper (rearward) one for the prop. It looks like I have 44" to the deeper crossmember, and 40" to the more forward one.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Also dry weight info. is needed so I can confirm if my lift will handle the weight.

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Best Regards

dry weight is 2800#. You can look at the literature to verify this.  Best guess is 21feet from bow tip to prop and the bottom of the prop is probably 18-20 inches below the bottom of the boat. Have the current owner measure for you.

Consider getting someone who has a boat to come by and try it.  I'm in Columbia, SC.  Where are you?

My 1999 Epic 22 with a 13x13 RH 3B OJ prop is about 14" from the bottom of the hull down to the farthest tip of the prop blade.  I did several things to estimate the distance because the boat is on a trailer on the driveway (drying from the weekend).  I'll save you all the ciphering and assumptions (but you'll understand this is at best an estimate).  Empty you might get away with 25" draft (maximum depth down to the tip of the blade).  However, try 26" or more (very carefully) to be on the safe side.

The Owner's Manual lists the Epic S22 (rear engine) with a draft of 24".  Draft for the Epic 22, X22 and X22 Wake Board (mid engine) is inconveniently left out or omitted all together.  Hope some of these ramblings help.

Also,  from the bottom of the rub rail (assuming the boat floats parallel to the rub rail) to the tip of the prop, the distance is about 38".  Is this what you need?
