COVER???
« on: June 10, 2004, 23:51:03 pm »
I need to purchase a new cover for my 2001 Epic X22.  Any suggestions?  I would like to be able to trailer the boat w/ the cover.

Thanks

You gotta get a Rankin cover.  They are the best... you can trailer with them on, they go on in about 5 minutes, and if they stretch (or shrink), it's not a problem.

I have three covers for mine (two Rankins)...and they both fit very well. The tower-up towing Rankin is the only one that I use, though.

They already have the molds (or dimensions?) for the X22, so you should just be able to call and place an order.  Done.  I think??? they're about $800, but worth every penny.

Where do you get a Rankin cover? I searched the internet and couldn't find them.

The guy who makes the Rankin covers is up here in Washington.  Here are some pics of one that is nearly identical to the one on my boat (except mine has a Toyota underneath, rather than a gay-wrestler)...and they should have the measurements already for the X22, with the tower locations.  The cover fits much tighter than it looks in the pics.  Once its tight, there are no ripples in the cover at all -- fits perfect.  Every ski boat in Washington has this cover...it is the best!

The Bake's Marine site has some pics:

And if you do decide to go with the Rankin, their info is here:

I have a storage cover similar to Cal's.

You can see my traveling/towing cover on the Epic SX photo's thread.  The bow cover is nice to leave on in cool weather (blocks the wind).

That cover is awesome. What is up with all those straps on the back? It is also cut really high around the transom. I may get a waterline cover with a swim platform cover integrated, because I store my boat outside and don't trailer with the cover on. I'd like to get one like yours for when I take long trips with the boat.

Here's mine. Not sure who made it, but it's got Epic and Toyota Marine logos on it. In this picture, I had run a line from bow eye over the windshield to the ski pylon to keep the rain from collecting in the bow and cockpit areas. With all the straps, it trailers very well.

However, after hearing Cal describe what these cost, I've stopped towing with it.

Pete, there's also a swim step cover - snaps on with two snaps. Can't trailer with it.

I've got a swimstep cover, also. It does cut pretty high above the transom, I'll try and take some pics of my cover when I'm out this weekend. It fits better than it looks in that picture...  no water collection, you just pull the five straps tight and everything runs to the back.  Works awesome and goes on really quickly.  I think so many people up in Washington like them is because of how easy they are to get on and off when the boat is on a boatlift.  All the adjustments and tie-downs are at the stern...makes it really quick and easy.

The only drawback on the Rankin covers is the "J" brackets that wrap around the boat fender.   They are made for all the other boats out there, with the thinner fenders. They don't hold all that well on our donut fenders. But that's the only gripe I have, and you figure out how to make them sit right after a few tries.

I could be off on the price, also... I didn't buy mine. It came with the boat from Cali (all three covers came with the boat, actually...that's how I knew the boat was the one...somebody more anal than me???).  In shopping for boats in the past (old Centurion, glad I didn't bite on that), that's what I recall them quoting me to have a Rankin made for it.
