Need help with running hot, 2000 epic x22
« on: May 30, 2012, 01:38:00 am »
Hey guys, I've browsed thru some posts looking for this.  Can't find anything specific to this, so please help.  I took the boat out Sunday all day, pulling tubes, trying multiple times trying to teach the kids to wakeboard.  Everything was great with the boat.  Today, we put in the water and the epic started running hot while idling in the water.  I shut it down and searched the forums. I checked the manifolds to see if just a gauge problem.  I couldn't keep my hand on it.  Started back up and it was still over 200*.  I left out for the launch at about 20-25 mph and it instantly cooled down.  At the docks, I pulled into the dock, let my dad hop out and when I started backing up, it was hot again.  Needless to say, at low speed or idle, I'm running hot.

I think wakejunky's got it.

You can pull the upper hose off the raw water pump, shine a flashlight in there and use a screw driver to turn the impeller to check the impeller blades. Eventhough they may be intact in may not be pushing water through.

If you check under the maintenance tab, right hand side under Owner Created Maintenance & Upgrade Documents, there's a file called Impeller Replacement that will walk you through it. It worked for me. I think the impeller is a Johnson 812B.

It could be a $50 fix and an hour of your time.

Thanks guys, I'm getting a new propeller and packing done Friday. Guess I'll include a impellar.

Hey Supra...
Hey what prop did you go with? Another stock'er? I'd thought about going with a 14" pitch to pick up a couple more mph.  Just kicking it around for now.
