Impeller
« on: July 30, 2012, 04:56:05 am »
Ok folks... I searched thru the old posts and didn't find an answer to my question.  To make a long story short, boat overheated, I pulled the impeller, it's THRASHED!  So I am wondering, where would all those pieces go to in the engine?

BTW, 2000 X22

Thanks

::) Hopefully, they made it past the engine water pump, thru the internal cavities and out the exhaust manifolds.

If they get stuck on the pump, the engine will continue to run hotter than normal. You will need to get in there and take them out and that's a whole new project.

Keep and I on the temp gauge.

I did the same thing 5 years ago at Vantage. Lost all the vanes. Damn thing looked like a bushing. Thought I could squeeze one more weekend out of it. ;D Threw in a new one and no problems since.

My impeller ate itself about five years ago as well.  Never did find any physical evidence of the impeller pieces (for I ripped my cooling system apart due to continued overheating... that's another story).  Yet currently, my heater doesn't kick out the heat like it used too... so I suspect something helped plug it up. :P

If you are continuing to over heat, you could be experiencing mineral build up inside your water system.  Your heater could be plugged with mineral deposits.  Our lake has a high amount of lime in the water, thus every 1000 hrs we flush the complete water system.  If we didn't,the ports in the block, heads and heater would all be plugged causing severe over heating.

Well, I replaced the impeller because it was shredded.  After much looking never found any pieces...oh well.  It runs like a champ again.  I've had the boat 7 years with the serpentine belt shredding once and now this.  Not too many boat owners can claim that sort of track record.  Toyota engines!
