water problem on x22
« on: July 27, 2012, 04:10:11 am »
I've bought another X22 this week, this one is a 2001.  I've previously posted questions about a 2000 X22, that I've sold to a friend at work who is our toyota tech.    A couple noticeable differences in the boats that I need to ask you guys about.  Both boats have the soft ballast system in the trunk, they're pretty much identicle exept for the factory tower speaker system.  I've had the packing replaced on the 00 model and am about to do the same on the 01, they both had a small leak.
I've never used the ballast system on either boat, so I have no idea how either one of them work.  Both boats have 2 holes on the starboard side rear of the boat.  On the 2000 model, I never noticed water coming out of these.  The bilge is in the battery compartment and is emptied midway on starboard side.   On this 2001 model, today after we got the engine rpm issue worked out, i took the boat out for about 10 minutes and when pulling back to the dock, i noticed water shooting out of both of these holes.    What are they supposed to be draining?  is there another bilge pump in the rear?
Also, I never had any water exit the rear drain plug when i removed it on the 2000 model.  When I removed the plug today on the 01 model it poured for a few minutes.. Even more confusing, after I trailered the boat, drove about 12 miles home and parked the boat.  Water started pouring, alot of water, out of the ballast intake thats under the boat.  The intake lever is showing thats it's closed and the bag has been empty.  Where is that much water coming from?  I noticed a difference when i got out of the boat at the docks that the swim platform was actually a few inches under water, the 2000 always sit about the water.
hopefully i didn't confuse you guys too much.

I've never seen an X22, but I'd check the plug under the front of the engine, then the bags for holes.  Sounds like a lot of water!

Just experienced the same problem with an SX I just bought.  Took it out for the first time and after 2 hours we were sitting pretty low in the water and the boat was really sluggish.  Pulled the boat out of the water and the intake holes drained for 15-20 minutes.  Took it to the shop and the prognosis was two bad ballast pumps where they were stuck open which just let the water in the entire time.  Total bill for the fix was 2 ballast pumps at $49 each + labor = $350.

Hopefully this was the entire problem as we haven't taken it back on the water yet.

Can I afford a request?
information of the x22 are widely given to date. For embassies, among others, but I speak from experience because it is difficult to follow and have accurate data.
Could we have an update at least given the plug under the front of the engine, as the brains?
